The OIL needs to be sizzling hot, and the kernels need to be in the oil, while the lighter popped kernels need to float to the top while the foil expands. You can tell by the sound, what is going on. I bet there are YouTube videos on the subject. I missed out from the notable burnt charcoal flavored popcorn my of childhood memories and camp-outs while realizing that as a prepper I can learn to do better to make better use of my resources. And, on the second try, I did much better to get a more "perfect" normal pop on dang near all the kernels. Honestly, I think I remember that at my last camping event, I took two. This ratio is what you grew accustomed too as you screwed it up doing it yourself as a kid with a campfire and this cool popcorn thing with a handle(YEARS before microwaves). The first trick, is learning that campfire jiffy pop is all about getting the correct ratio of burnt to normally cooked popped kernels.
